Student Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Recognize and describe the significant characteristics of quantitative and qualitative research paradigms.

Recognize and describe the distinctions between quantitative and qualitative research paradigms.

Appreciate the value of both paradigms by understanding that they contribute equally to the field of education.

Develop a research inquiry that is focused and purposeful based on a preliminary review of the literature on the topic.

Search and use the scientific literature to articulate a research problem of practice, research purpose, and research questions that will explore that research problem of practice.

Determine the most appropriate research design(s) and utilize research methodology that is most appropriate given the research inquiry, problem, purpose, and question(s).

Describe validity and reliability as that relates to the appropriate research methodology.

Recognize a broad range of data collection methods appropriate to each research methodology covered in class.

Utilize appropriate data collection methods as they relate to research methodology selected for research proposal.

Apply appropriate survey, measurement, interview and other data collection techniques.

Engage in a range of data analyses such as descriptive, inferential, ethnographic, narrative, etc. using the related software.
